I just found this old binder filled with projects from my Minority Literature class. It involved a lot of writing.
Here are a couple of entries in my daily journal (circa '05)
"I, honestly, don't know much about Native Americans. I know that they like to have dance parties and they smoke. I also know that they have crazy animal/verb names(Dances With Wolves). I also know that they were here before us and we stole the land. I know they like corn..."
That was, clearly, before I started reading a novel about Native Americans. Here is an entry after beginning the book.
"I like the book more than I thought I would. Honestly, I thought that Native American literature would be about nature and the moon and things like that. I did not know that lacrosse was so important to their culture. Anyway, I like the book. It's pretty enjoyable. I like that Jake is 12. It's pretty cool."
here's an excerpt from an entry about sports.
"When I was very little, I played tee-ball. I was VERY good at it. But, when I moved on to real baseball, I was not so good. So, I just quit. My sport, now, is dance. I've been doing it for like 6 years. You might be thinking that dance is not a sport... but, believe me... you get pretty sweaty."
I had such potential.
